Charlie Hunnam quick exit from the The Movie Fifty Shades of grey Film, El james number one selling book has left fans in shock.
The Sons Of Anarchy star was confirmed over the weekend “Fifty Shades Of grey Fan Club” departure from the movie and role as Christian grey.
The initial comments from the fifty shades team was that his intensive schedule was behind his departure. But The real reason behind the British actor’s departure is simply that he was not happy with the direction of the creative team and butting heads. Sources reveal there was a level of discomfort on charlies’s part that had been increasing over the past few weeks. Source’s also claim that Charlie intially was hesitant to accept the role, but was later convinced by some friends and colleagues on the set of SOA. Front runners previously for this role had been, Matt bomer, henry cavill, Ian somerhalder, Zac efron to mention a few. Charlie was also worried what this role would do to his career
Ever since the Fifty Shades of Grey books have been picked up for the movie version, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have been some of the top picks to play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The pairing has been extra juicy since The Vampire Diaries stars were a couple in real life, but has their recent breakup meant they’re off the hot spot?
The producers and the movie studios might have been tight-lipped as Fort Knox on the subject of casting, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating on the casting of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, and one of the most popular castings has been that of Nina and Ian, who have topped the lists as the favorites for months.
It looked likely that it could have actually happened, but ever since the pair have finally broken up officially, what will this mean in the context of the Fifty Shades casting?
Ian Somerhalder is the number one choice for Grey, and rumor has it the Louisiana born actor has actually met up with E.L. James and the movie’s producers Dana Brunetti and Matt De Lucca, but again, with all the rumors going round about the movie’s casting who are we to believe?
Nina and Ian would have had some hot chemistry, and it would have been convincing to get them together on the project as a couple, however, professionalism or not, working together on Fifty Shades as ex-boyfriend and girlfriend would just be awkward for the pair.
It looks like their break up is going to affect more than just their Fifty Shades chances, it might even damage their working relationship on The Vampire Diaries – this is why people say you shouldn’t date people you work with.
If it comes down to a choice of one or the other, our money is on Ian Somerhalder getting picked over Nina Dobrev. While Nina has been a popular choice for Anastasia, she’s still behind others like Emilia Clarke or Alexis Bledel, whereas Ian Somerhalder has picked up a cult following who are dying to see him as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. It’s really a no brainer who’ll be picked if we’re left with an ultimatum.
What do you think? Who would you rather see in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie? Ian Somerhalder or Nina Dobrev?
Fans have been going crazy over casting speculations over who will be cast as Christian grey In Fifty Shades of Grey Movie. Jensen joins the growing list which include Ian Somerhalder,Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill as the leading contenders for the role
“Yet he seems to truly personify Christian Grey,” said the Examiner, “Jensen Ackles may not be a part of the Christian Grey world, but he has many other traits that make him perfect for the role. Jensen has a quiet confidence and the charisma to charm any woman. As seen in interviews, he also has the presence needed to play the very wealthy Grey Enterprise Holding’s CEO. Christian Grey is a skilled, yet modest, pianist and singer. There are many scenes from the book where Ana Steele finds Christian playing the piano alone. She is in awe of his abilities and grows a deeper love for the complex man,” continues the Examiner, “Jensen Ackles is known for being a talented singer and guitar player, often taking the stage for jam sessions. While on the series ‘Dark Angel’, Jensen also played a Chopin piece on the piano.”
The examiner makes a good case for Jensen Ackles as Christian Grey, but does he have what it takes to knock Ian Somerhalder off the top spot to grab the whip-wielding crowing spot of Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of E.L. James’s famous books. A lot could still happen between now and the official casting, so perhaps Jensen could gain popularity, or maybe another unknown talent could steal the top spot for Christian Grey. Hopefully Universal will put all of us out of our miseries soon!
Ian Somerhalder is a huge fan favorite to play Christian grey. Not only that, he is rumored to be one of the top 2 in getting the role for Mr grey.
“I thought I’d get prepared, just in case. I think a lot of people are doing that now,” he said in an interview in 2012.
One thing that defines Christian Grey is his intense gaze, and one thing that’s for sure is that Ian certain has that nailed down. We can definitely imagine him turning Anastasia Steele into a puddle of lust just from his gaze alone.
But, Christian Grey he’s a dedicated businessman with a philanthropic side, something Ian definitely has experience in. Ian Somerhalder not only knows how to rock a suit, but he’s also got his own charity, the Ian Somerhalder Foundation that has been set up to support the protection of the environment and the animals.
Also, E.L. James is a fan of the Vampire Diaries, which means that Ian is definitely on her radar. Maybe the connection is no guarantee that Ian will get cast as Christian Grey, but it can’t do any harm either.
Ian Somerhalder has the body and the model good looks, but he also possesses the charm, the confidence and the charisma we expect from Christian Grey. Ian definitely has the at-ease sex appeal that turns Anastasia Steele into a quivering,
Twitter has been the perfect platform for fans to reach out to the author, but to date EL James has been very cautious with any information. Perhaps this selected retweet is a nod towards her favoring Ian Somerhalder above the other candidates. We know from her interview with Ryan Seacrest back in September that she’s a Vampire Diaries show, which stars Ian Somerhalder.
So what can fans make of this? Well, it is a long way to casting, the odds are in Ian’s favor. However, it looks like casting will not take place until a director is found, and Universal Studios are still searching for someone to take the chair, so casting is still a little bit away.
Ian Somerhalder will continue with his part of Damon in the Vampire Diaries, but apart from that, the 34-year-old has no attachment to any other projects in Hollywood. Although, he’s got quite the busy schedule with his charity the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, which aims to “empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures.”
The immense fan support he’s received the world over, combined with an open schedule and now even a nod from E.L. James herself, has definitely put Ian Somerhalder forward as the favored Christian Grey. And, we’re sure the above news will make some fans really quite happy.
If we had a dollar for every single Fifty Shades casting rumor we’d be rich now – and it looks like there is no stopping them! Right now the list of Christian Grey candidates is growing, and even with some actors dropping out to get involved in other franchises, more and more actors are making their way up the grey tied ladder.
To many, Daniel Radcliffe will always be Harry Potter, which is why the 23-year-old is keen to lose his child star image, and what better way than working on Fifty Shades of Grey?
While Daniel Radcliffe will always be the young wizard from Hogwarts, he’s already gone on to do some risqué roles like his part in the stage play Equus, where he appeared fully nude, and his recent role as Allan Ginsberg in the movie Kill Your Darlings. The latter has sparked a wave of controversy since Radcliffe participates in an explicit, scene in the movie with male co-star Dane DeHaan. The movie debuted a few days ago at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
The English actor isn’t fazed by nudity in movies, and even told Gossip Cop that playing in a sequence for a straight man was no big deal.
“For me, there’s something very strange about that because see straight with scenes all the time,” said Radcliffe, “We’ve seen scenes before. And I don’t know why a scene should be any more shocking than a straight scene. Or both of them are equally un-shocking.”
Radcliffe’s openness to raunchy roles might get him noticed on the Christian Grey list, but to many, he’s just not Christian Grey. Daniel Radcliffe would be up against other actors like Ian Somerhalder from the Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford and Les Miserables’ Eddie Redmayne, and others like Henry Cavill and Matt Bomer.
Universal Studios and Focus Features have remained silent on the issue, and with Kelly Marcel still penning the script, it looks like we’ll be waiting for a while until we have a script and a director for the movie. Whether Radcliffe is interested in the project is another issue, but life after Harry Potter might make things a little difficult for the actor to gain an edgy image. Maybe getting involved in another franchise might not be the best move for Daniel either. Also, we think he’s cute and all, but he’s no Christian Grey.
Kelly Marcel is still working on the script, and a director for the movie hasn’t been picked yet, so it looks unlikely that casting is going to take place anytime soon. E.L. James has also mentioned she doesn’t want to reveal her top picks, just on the off chance the production team decides to hire other actors.
The rights for Fifty Shades of Grey were picked up in the summer of 2012, and so far has bought Mike De Lucca and Dana Brunetti on board as producers, and Kelly Marcel as the screenwriter. The release date for the movie is unknown, but if we look at other examples, it looks like Fifty Shades of Grey won’t get its cast till next year, so we still have a long way to go.
Perhaps all the names that are hot at the moment will fall out of fashion by the time casting gets underway in 2014, and we might be treated to new and exciting faces for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Perhaps, Analeigh might be the ideal fresh face to keep us all excited over the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, or maybe another actress will come onto the scene to excite us.Top actors to play christian grey and hollywood is abuzz with rumors of who will be cast, and a career-changing role of Christian Grey.

Recent casting news in the world of Fifty Shades of Grey has shown that The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder has topped fan polls as one of the favorites for the role of Christian Grey once again.
Now, this might seem like old news – we’ve had polls ever since Universal Studios bought the rights to the movie back in the summer. However, it does look like the film’s producers have some “possible names floating about” for potential actors in the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.
Ian Somerhalder took to Twitter a few weeks back to auction off his very own marked copy of the Fifty Shades of Grey novel complete with a handwritten note for his charity organization, The Ian Somerhalder Foundation. He’s been very open about his enjoyment of the book and the movie casting talk, but even he admits it’s all just rumors for the moment.
“There’s nothing official,” he said when asked about the casting of Christian Grey, “But there’s a website you can go to when you can make your basement like a dungeon. So, I thought I’d be prepared, just in case.”
Matt Bomer is another actor who has been linked to Christian Grey, with many supportive fans rooting to see him in the red room of pain. Bomer, unlike Somerhalder, has kept quiet on the casting in the movie to date, but he still tops some of the polls showing some serious competition for Mr. Grey.
While screenwriter Kelly Marcel said that casting would not take place until the script is finished and a director is brought on board, she did mention in her interview that there were some actors’ names floating around the production team.
Other Fifty Shades candidate is handsome, British actor Henry Cavill, who had been named the 2013 Breakout Star, has been linked to the casting since Dana Brunetti dropped he was meeting with the agency that represent Cavill.
Even with the huge fan followings, such as Alexander Skarsgard, Garrett Hedlund and Alex Pettyfer, there is always the chance E.L. James will select an unknown for the part of Christian Grey. With all the hype surrounding the movie, casting an A-list actor isn’t necessary for it to be a box office hit. Even the bigger names on the list are TV stars anyway. So who would you like to see as you ideal Christian Grey?
We might have no idea on who’ll be cast in the leading roles for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, but screenwriter Kelly Marcel has said the movie will receive an NC-17 rating.
“We are 100% going there. It will be rated NC-17. It will be raunchy,” said Marcel in her interview with The Sunday Times. Fans world over must be jumping up and down with excitement, but hold on, there is no guarantee that the studios will go for this adult rating.
On the surface it makes sense to assign the Fifty Shades films an NC-17 rating – the movie will be based on a series of erotic novels, so it merits an adult certification. However, Universal Studios have no knowledge of Marcel’s plans yet, allegedly. Also, while the books are sexual in nature – is there enough material to justify this rare NC-17 category? There are sex scenes, some elements of S&M nature, but majority of the novel revolves around the novelty of the BDSM world Anastasia Steele is exposed to. It focuses on their relationship and not exclusively their sex life.
If the movie gets a PG rating, here’s what would get kept in: the elevator make out session; Anastasia’s innocent reaction to a naked Christian; Mr. Grey’s dirty talk while they’re in the bedroom; Anastasia ridding around with the pleasure balls; and Christian flogging Anastasia Steele with the riding crop. The most extreme scene is when Anastasia is spanked before she runs off.
While in a perfect world, getting an NC-17 rating would make fans the world over happy, there are more reasons why Universal might not go for it.
Firstly, NC-17 films seem to have a poor track record in the theaters. The erotic predecessors of Fifty Shades of Grey have never experienced high grossing and seem to have a poor box office record. Since Universal have already splashed out on $5 million back in March for the rights to Fifty Shades of Grey to beat all the other studios, they might not be willing to risk a higher rating.
However, with the epic success of the Fifty Shades of Grey novels, there is the chance the movie would be a huge success even with an NC-17 rating. The demand for erotica has soared, so with the huge following behind Fifty Shades, the studios might be able to take the risk of going for a more daring rating.
The casting war between the male leads for the coveted role of Christian Grey is showing no signs of being solved anytime soon. Right now, so many fans of the books are just picking their favorite hunk to take Anastasia into the red room of pain, but even E.L. James herself said it’s a matter that requires more than just looks.
Right now the favorite for the part is Ian Somerhalder from The Vampire Diaries, who is slaying polls left, right and center, with Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill coming in so far behind in the polls with a “combined total that did not even make up half of Somerhalder’s votes.” It looks like fans all around are desperate for Somerhalder to become Christian Grey.
While the voters want Ian, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll get what they want. E.L. James, who wrote the best selling trilogy, has a soft spot for Superman star Henry Cavill. Some rumors even cite that James’s isn’t sold on Somerhalder’s “dark and sexual look,” which many fans love about him.
So the question is, who should play Christian Grey? Should it be Ian Somerhalder or Henry Cavill? Apparently some argue that neither should play Christian.
Renier Palland from Celeb Dirty Laundry says that casting Ian Somerhalder is a “clichéd choice, one of the most predictable casting moments in the history of cinema.” Should casting be chosen by fans like a political election, or left to people who know their job? That is the problem with all of these polls.
Somerhalder has the issue of dragging the Vampire Diaries franchise with him into the Fifty Shades movies, and might make Christian seem far too otherworldly, and at risk of sidelining him with Robert Pattinson.
E.L. James might have based Christian Grey on Edward Cullen, but it’s precisely for the Edward Cullen association that E.L. James doesn’t want Pattinson anywhere near the movie.
The disadvantage of Henry Cavill is that the anger from Somerhalder’s fanbase might hinder box office sales. On the other hand, if Cavill is turned down, Fifty Shades of Grey might implode thanks to “cinematic hype saturation,” due to the overhyping of the casting, that the quality is ignored.
Matt Bomer is an alternative, but his age has been an issue for many in the discussions surrounding the casting. Chase Crawford is another, who has the right look, age and could pull the character off, but is the Gossip Girl star too unknown?
